Plus
These programs can provide relief to those who suffer from arthritis
or after a recent injury or surgery (Doctor approval is highly
recommended before beginning). Exercises are done slowly, in the
shallow end of the pool, and will help increase your range of
motion.

Water Aerobics
A fun filled hour of water exercise, consisting of warm-up, cardiovascular
conditioning, muscular strengthening and endurance, plus flexibility
and cool down. Included with membership

Deep Water Aerobics
Flotation cuffs and styrofoam dumb bells are used to add resistance
to your workout. A great cardiovascular conditioning class, held
in the deep end of the pool, that offers no stress on the joints!

Stroke Clinic
For members who wish to work on advanced stroke techniques for
freestyle, breast stroke, back stroke and butterfly.

Aqua Jogging
An excellent cardio vascular exercise program for all levels of
fitness. This program takes place in the deep end of the pool
using buoyancy belts and tethers. Included with membership.

Personal Training in the Pool
Enjoy the benefits of personal training in the water with one
of our certified instructors.
Open Family Swim
All Children must be accompanied by an adult (age 18 & up).
Each adult can supervise a maximum of 4 children. Children must
remain within arm’s length of the adult they are swimming
with. Refer to current pool schedule for days and times.
Open Youth Swim
Youth swim participants must be
10 years of age or older. Refer to current pool schedule for days
and times.
Swimming for the Fearful
Instructors are well versed and sensitive to the needs of their
students. Learn the fundamentals of swimming or improve your strokes.
Older youths are welcome.
Private Swim Lessons
All ages. Customized instruction based upon swimmers ability.

Adapted Aquatics
These lessons are held in an environment with social and emotional
rewards. Individual progress is monitored and personal goals are
established
for individuals with special needs.

Parent/Child Swim Program
30-minute class is for children ages 6 – 36 months &
their parents. Primary objective is to have both the parent and
child comfortable in the water. This is a non-submersive class.
Children will become aware of the differences between moving through
water and on dry land, while the parents will become aware of
how to teach his or her child to be safe in and around the water.
Classes are designed to allow the child to have fun in the water
while the parent guides him or her to learn aquatic skills. The
child will be exposed to games that use basic movements in the
water, such as kicking, arm strokes and breath control. Activities
are based on developmental abilities of the child.

Preschool Swim Program Beginner Preschool
– Pike & Eel Advanced Preschool – Ray & Starfish
(Advanced Preschool must be able to swim without any floatation
device.) The Preschool Swim Program offers children their first
experience in the pool without parental assistance. The children
are taught the basic skills/building blocks of swimming. They
will learn about pool safety and the use of personal flotation
devices. The 30-minute class is taught by a caring, qualified
swim instructor. Buoyant bubbles and other teaching devices are
used to promote skill development. Class participants are divided
into skill levels and class size is 1:5 ratio of instructor to
child.

YOUTH SWIM PROGRAM
45-minute class is for children ages 6 &up. It is comprised
of 5 main
components:personal safety, stroke development, water sports &
games and rescue. Skill levels build upon the strokes, diving
fundamentals and safety skills. Youth 1 beginner is for children
who have never had swim lessons or still use a bubble. Youth I
programs are 30-45 minutes.
Youth I Beginner (with bubble)
This is for the child who has never had swim lessons previously
or for the child who still uses a bubble or may have fear of the
water.

Each child is placed in a class according to his/her abilities.
Each group works on personal safety, stroke development, water
sports and games, personal growth, fitness and rescue skills.

Youth ll participants must be able to complete 50 yards of the
front crawl with rotary breathing and 50 yards of the back crawl
as well as tread water for 2 min. Participants will become proficient
in all strokes, build stamina & endurance.

Intro to Competitive Swimming
Participants must be at least six years old, know basic strokes
and have a desire to swim. Stroke mechanics will be taught along
with competitive start and turns. Swimmers age 6–10 must
be able to complete 100 yards of both the front crawl and backstroke.
Ages 6 & up
Spring Stroke Clinic
5-week stroke development program focuses on the 4 competitive
strokes and proper technique. Participants must be able to demonstrate
100 yards of both front crawl with rotary breathing and back stroke.
Ages 6 & up
Summer Swim Team Program
The YMCA Wahoo Swim Team gathers during the summer to practice
on an informal yet challenging practice schedule. Old and new
team members are welcome. Swimmers will refine their skills and
gear up for swim team in September. Information is available in
the Registration Office or Contact the Aquatic Department.
Ages 6 & up
Guard Start Plus Program
An introduction to lifeguarding, water safety, swimming and program
instruction. Students will be certified in CPR/AED and first aid.
This course is good training for anyone interested in becoming
a swim instructor, camp counselor, deck or beach assistant.
Wahoo Swim Team
Newport County YMCA age group swim team begins its season in September.
Wahoo Swim Team practices throughout the week, competing on Saturdays
in the SENECY Swim League. Season ends in March with the District
Championships. YMCA membership is required. Team member’s
parents participate in the Wahoo Swim Team
Booster Club. We request that parents take an active part in this
committee. Swimmers age 6 –12 must be able to complete 100
yards of both front crawl and backstroke. Visit the Wahoo Swim
