ADULTS
  • Adult Swim Lessons/Swimming for the Fearful
    Instructors are well-versed and sensitive to the needs of their students. Learn the fundamentals of swimming or improve your strokes. Older youth are also welcome.
  • Water Aerobics
    A fun filled hour of water exercise, consisting of warm-up, cardiovascular conditioning, muscular strengthening and endurance, plus flexibility and cool down.
  • Deep Water Aerobics
    Flotation cuffs and styrofoam dumb bells are used to add resistance to your workout. A great cardiovascular conditioning class, held in the deep end of the pool, that offers no stress on the joints!
  • Aqua Jogging
     
  • Stroke Clinic
    For members who wish to work on advanced stroke techniques for freestyle, breast stroke, back stroke and butterfly.
  • Masters Swimming
    Swim workouts are prepared for the adult who is looking to enhance their swimming program. Participants swim between 2200 and 3000 yards in the hour workout. This is a great way to get into and stay in shape.
YOUTH
  • Introduction to the Wahoo Swim Team
    Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of the front crawl and 25 yards of back stroke. This program gives swimmers the opportunity to try the YMCA's swim team program. Contact the YMCA for days and times.
  • Preseason Wahoo Swim Team
    Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of front crawl and 25 yards of the back stroke. The program is designed for returning swimmers to condition for the upcoming swim team season. Contact the YMCA for days and times.
  • Parent/Child Water Adjustment
    Ensure that your child's first water experience is a positive one. This program follows the YMCA of the USA's guidelines and is the only swimming program approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics. This non-submersion class consists of songs, games and fun. Ages: 6-36 mos.
  • Pre-school
    Swim levels: Pike, Eel, Ray & Starfish.
    A progressive program taught by qualified instructors. Buoyant bubbles and other teaching devices are used to promote skill development. Each class session teaches swimming and water safety and is an excellent socialization activity for youngsters. Ages: 3-5.
  • Beginner Youth I
    If your child has a fear of the water or is a beginner swimmer, this is the class to try. The student/teacher ratio is small and instructors are sensitive to your child's needs. Best of all your child has FUN while learning how to be safe in the water. Ages 6 and up.
  • Youth I
    For the swimmers in the Polliwog, Guppy and Minnow skill levels. Each child is placed in a class according to his/her abilities. Each group works on a personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, personal growth, fitness and rescue skills. Ages 6 and up.
  • Youth II
    Swimmers will become proficient in all strokes while building greater stamina and endurance. Children must have mastered the front crawl, back stroke and be able to swim 50 yards without becoming fatigued.
  • Summer Swim Team Program
    The YMCA Wahoo Swim Team will gather during the summer to practice on an information yet challenging practice schedule. Old and new team members are welcome to develop new skills and to begin work prior to the September season.
  • Wahoo Swim Team
    The Newport County YMCA age group swim team begins its season in September. The Wahoo Swim Team practices throughout the week and competes on Saturdays in the SENECY Swim League. The season ends in late February with the District Championships. YMCA membership is required.
  • Youth Competitive Stroke Clinic
    The clinics are aimed at swim team members and others who have shown an interest in swimming competitively. Participants will work on stroke mechanics and improve endurance.
  • Adapted Aquatics
    These lessons are held in an environment with social and emotional rewards. Individual progress is monitored and personal goals are established for individuals with special needs.
